To Mary's Family and Friends:
I have thought about you all so many times since learning of Mary' s untimely passing. No words seem appropriate to express my sorrow. I'm sure that you are all very sad and I hope that
after some of the hurt goes away, you will be able to rejoice in all the memories that you have of Mary...all the laughs...all the good times.
My sorrow is lessened only slightly with the comforting thought that I had the privilege to know and play with Mary over the years. We met on a softball field in the 1970's and had many good times for the next 25 years. I don't think Mary ever hit the ball past the pitcher, but she always managed to get to first base laughing and smiling all the way. So many wonderful memories come flooding back, not only from softball, but the other times we would get together as well. She was always so beautiful and elegant and her quick wit made her a joy to be with.
If had to use one word to describe Mary, which is nearly impossible, I would say that she was a person who gave. She gave me so many laughs and positive memories, but beyond that it seemed like each time I spoke with her, she had someone else living with her and Lance to nurture, regroup and send on their merry way. Mary gave everyone laughter and strength. Even in this time of sadness and great loss the image of her brings a smile to my face. She saw the light side
of every situation.
I'm sure that you, more than Mary' s network of friends, know these sides of her--her brilliance, her strength, her compassion, her humor. A person with only one
of these virtues would make a family proud. As with everything Mary did, the reputation she
left behind only adds to her legacy.
Mary was a genuinely wonderful individual...one I will miss greatly.
